بدأت كنيسة السيدة العذراء أم الزنار بأقليات صغيرة من العائلات التى كانت تحلم بأن تنشأ كنيسة سريانية أرثوذكسية فى مدينتهم جاكسنفيل. وفى سنة ١٩٩٦ اجتمعت هذه العائلات و بدأت تتصل بنيافة مطران الأبرشية مار كيرلس إفرام كريم النائب البطريركى لشرقى الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية الذى رغب من كل قلبه أن تبنى كنيسة سريانية فى جاكسنفيل. فلبى نيافته دعوة العائلات السريانية وقام بزيارة المدينة واجتمع معهم وأسس مجلس ملى للكنيسة وتم تكليف الراهب الربان موريس أمسيح الذى يخدم كنيسة مار أثناسيوس بمدينة تامبا بفلوريدا بأن يأتى مرة واحدة كل أسبوعين ليحتفل بالقداس الإلهى فى جاكسنفيل
وفى سنة ١٩٩٧ اتفقت العائلات السريانية والتى وصل عددها ۲٥ عائلة سريانية أرثوذكسية وتم شراء كنيسة بمشيئة الله وأطلق على الكنيسة اسم السيدة العذراء أم الزنار. وتم شراء الكنيسة من تبرعات المؤمنين بمدينة جاكسنفيل إن كان بالمال أو المواد أو بالأعمال اليدوية، وكل واحد حسب طاقته، فجميع العائلات ساهمت بهذا العمل الكبير وجميع اللجان أيضا. وتم تعيين الأب فادى كساب كاهنا لهذه الكنيسة الجديدة
كانت الفرحة الكبرى عندما تحدد موعد تقديس الكنيسة على يدى صاحب القداسة مار اغناطيوس زكا الأول عيواص بطريرك إنطاكية وسائر المشرق والرئيس الأعلى للكنيسة السريانية الأرثوذكسية فى العالم أجمع، وفى ١٥ أغسطس ١٩٩٨ وبمناسبة عيد انتقال السيدة العذراء بالجسد الى السماء، احتفل بالقداس الإلهى قداسة البطريرك فى الكنيسة الجديدة يعاونه نيافة مطران الأبرشية مار كيرلس إفرام كريم ونيافة المطران مار إقليميس أوجين قبلان النائب البطريركى لغربى الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية، ونيافة المطران مار غريغوريوس يوحنا ابراهيم مطران حلب وتوابعها ولفيف من الكهنة وتم تقديس الكنيسة
وزادت فرحة الشعب السريانى عندما قدم قداسة البطريرك هدية ثمينة للكنيسة وهى عبارة عن قطعة صغيرة من زنار أمنا السيدة العذراء ووضع قداسته هذه القطعة فى مكان خصص لها ليتبارك منها المؤمنون.

ونشكر نيافة سيدنا المطران مار كيرلس إفرام كريم الذى له جهود عالية فى بناء هذه الكنيسة ونشكر جميع العائلات التى ساهمت وما تزال تساهم من أجل إعمار هذه الكنيسة

The thought of having a Syrian Orthodox Church in Jacksonville started with a few families. In 1996 they gathered together and contacted His Eminence Archbishop of Archdiocese of Eastern United States Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim which was the desire of his heart. His Eminence responded quickly and visited the congregation in Jacksonville, and they voted for the board of the church, His Eminence delegated father Rabban Maurice Amsih of Mor Athanasious church in Tampa, Florida to conduct the Divine Liturgy once every two weeks. 
In 1997 the congregation became about 25 families, and they decided to buy the church and by the will of God they named it Mother of God of the Zunoro. Every one of the congregation offered money, materials, or labor to finish the building, every one as much as he can, God bless them. Father Fadi Kassab was consecrated to serve the Lord in this church.
The greatest joy was when His Holiness Moran Mor Ignatius Zakka I Iwas consecrated the church in August 15, 1998, the anniversary of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, which is the feast of carrying her body by the Angels to heaven, with the help of His Eminence the Archbishop Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim the Patriarchal Vicar for the Eastern United States, His Eminence Mor Eklimens Eugenie the Patriarchal Vicar for the Western United States, His Eminence Mor Ghrighorius John Abraham of Aleppo and its vicinities, and a group of priests.
Added to the great joy of the congregation that His Holiness The Patriarch gave the church the precious gift which is a piece of thread from the Zunoro of our mother saint Mary, and was put in a special place so the believers can get blessings.

We thank our God and savior Jesus Christ forever more for His precious gifts to us.

We thank His Eminence Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim for his efforts in helping this church, and we thank all the families for their effort, may the Lord richly bless each and everyone.
